In Grandma’s Attic

in grandms attic this book, Arleta Richardson shares stories with us that her Grandma (Mabel) told her. Most of the stories are about her Grandma’s childhood, growing up on a farm with her older brothers Reuben and Roy.

Each chapter starts with Arleta finding something such as a button or a piece of material and asking her grandma about the object. Her grandma then responds with a story. They usually leave the reader with a lesson such as “Pride goes before a fall” or “God Knows Best”.

Some of the stories are quite old fashioned and some children, especially from a different cultural background, might not understand them. For example in the first story, Mabel and her friend manage to get some hoops for their skirts and try to sneak out to church wearing them without their parents noticing.

Throughout these stories many Christian principles are emphasised. The father often opens his Bible and reads with the children.
